Telestream Receives Frost & Sullivan Product of the Year Award in Digital Media Applications
Telestream MAP recognized for making media more accessible to a broader range of organizations at breakthrough price points
Nevada City, Calif., January 13, 2005 - Telestream, the leading provider of media access and encoding solutions, has received the Frost & Sullivan 2005 Digital Media Applications Product of Year Award for its Telestream MAPT product line. The Award is presented each year to a company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry. Telestream was presented with the Award at the Frost & Sullivan Excellence in Information & Communications Technologies Awards Banquet, held last night in Scottsdale, Arizona. The banquet honors world-class companies for outstanding performance and achievements in the information and communications technologies markets.
Frost & Sullivan recognized Telestream as one of the top software companies in the encoding market for broadcast workflows, and further recognized the company for being early to notice that the rising use of digital video and audio in various market applications has fostered the need to easily access, organize, and share digital media on a daily basis.
"Today's distributed workgroups are looking for low-cost, easy-to-implement network-based media access solutions," notes Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Mukul Krishna. "Telestream realized that this need creates an opportunity for a new category of solutions, which are quite different than the traditional, highly customized, high-end asset management solutions."
Telestream, thus developed its MAPT (media application platform) product line, which includes a robust yet affordable media collaboration solution that enables customers and partners to access digital media, such as video and audio, in multiple ways to fit their business and technical needs. In 2004, only half a dozen vendors offered somewhat similar solutions.
Frost & Sullivan bases its Product of the Year Award on research conducted by its team of industry analysts, who compile interviews with market participants along with secondary and technology research. Companies are compared and evaluated based on their degree of innovation and customer satisfaction. Telestream received the 2005 Digital Media Applications Product of Year Award for its development of new solutions that make media more accessible to increasing types of organizations.
"Telestream is honored to receive this prestigious award from Frost & Sullivan, one of the world's top research firms," said Dan Castes, president and CEO of Telestream. "We are delighted that these industry experts recognize the significant value that our MAP technology and products offer the marketplace by enabling a broad range of digital media access workflows at breakthrough price points."
In developing MAP, Telestream leveraged its expertise with its FlipFactory ® product in understanding and solving the complexities associated with large media files. The Telestream MAPT solution is built on Microsoft's .NET Web Services framework to provide flexible, cost-effective integration with third-party applications developed by either partner vendors or the customers themselves.
"Building on Microsoft's .NET framework has accelerated the time-to-market for Telestream's MAP, thereby providing a deeper level of integration with user desktops and other systems to enable a virtually limitless range of media workflow solutions at breakthrough price points," notes Krishna.
MAP products add video and audio access, indexing and search capabilities to Microsoft's SharePoint Web portal and collaboration tools. MAP automatically captures metadata during ingest or metadata can be entered manually, providing powerful search capability.
MAP also enables users to trim and save segments of media and e-mail them to colleagues and clients. Media can be transcoded to/from formats, including Windows Media, Real, QuickTime, AVI, DV25, and MPEG. Moreover, MAP supports Avid, Adobe, Pinnacle, and other Windows-based edit systems. Further, media can be automatically archived to DVD or CD based on folder rules set up by the administrator.
