Telestream Offers Automated Ingest for Reuters World News Express Clients

FlipFactory NewsManager automates delivery to news production and broadcast systems

Amsterdam , Netherlands - IBC Show - September 9, 2005 - Telestream, the leading provider of digital workflow automation solutions for the broadcast industry, today announced FlipFactory support for the Reuters World News Express (WNE) system. Reuters WNE is a new file-based delivery system that provides a faster, more flexible news delivery option for broadcast facilities around the world. Telestream's FlipFactory NewsManager seamlessly integrates with the WNE system to automate delivery within the facility to news production and broadcast servers. The combined solution provides broadcasters with a fully-automated, all-digital news workflow, from receipt of Reuters WNE-delivered news content to reformatting and delivery to digital newsroom systems.

"Working with Telestream we have been able to draw on their expertise in format conversion and file transfer technology to enhance our WNE file-based production/delivery system for our clients," said Robert Kernot, Global Head of Visuals Development at Reuters. "Telestream's FlipFactory NewsManager can be used by our broadcast customers to provide the automated processes they desire for digital delivery all the way to their production systems and broadcast servers."

Until now, broadcasters have been hampered by the inefficiencies of fixed satellite delivery times, manual dubbing and transfer of video tapes, and separate feeds for data that describe the video, such as scripts and rights information. The result is a flood of information into the newsroom which is difficult to manage. Digital file technology offers the advantages of faster, more flexible delivery of a single, integrated digital file which is easier to manage throughout the workflow.

Telestream's FlipFactory NewsManager can by used by WNE clients who want an automated file ingest solution. FlipFactory NewsManager monitors the Reuters WNE receive server for the arrival of new content, then automatically ingests the integrated media and metadata file, and flips it into the required format for delivery to virtually any news production server or broadcast server. FlipFactory can also simultaneously produce a browse-quality proxy version for desktop viewing and streaming formats for the Web. Files can be flipped as fast as, or faster than real time, and multiple news stories can be processed at the same time. Plus, these functions can be executed without the need for expensive and complex automation system control.

"We're excited to be aligning with Reuters, the leading provider of global news delivery systems and services," said David Heppe, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Telestream. "By combining our file-based, digital media transfer technologies, we offer broadcasters a vastly more efficient news delivery solution that makes better use of their digital newsroom systems."

Telestream's FlipFactory NewsManager, with support for the Reuters WNE system, is available now from Telestream's network of worldwide sales and distribution channels.  Telestream is featuring this and other digital news solutions in Stand 7.831 at the International Broadcasters Convention (IBC) which opens in Amsterdam today.
