Dutch Broadcaster EO Streamlines Operations with Telestream

FlipFactory automates large-scale MXF file conversion and transfer

Amsterdam , Netherlands - IBC Show - September 9, 2005 - Telestream, the leading provider of automated media encoding workflow solutions for the broadcast industry, today announced that Evangelische Omroep (EO), the largest public broadcaster in The Netherlands, has turned to Telestream to solve their workflow efficiency challenges. Telestream's FlipFactory transcoding workflow automation application was selected by EO to provide robust file conversion and transfer.

Under the direction of Menno Helmus, EO developed a highly-cost effective production and editing system based entirely on the Apple Final Cut Pro and Xsan platform. The long-term financial benefits of this system could bring production savings in the millions of euros each year to EO.  However, two workflow challenges were preventing EO from taking full advantage of these cost benefits. First, they were unable to import MXF files from their Sony XDCAM cameras into their Final Cut Pro editing systems. Secondly, the NOB now required that finished programs be delivered as MXF (IMX 30 MB) files to the new digital tapeless playout facility in Hilversum.

"We turned to Telestream as experts in the field of file compatibility when we heard about their new Flip4Mac MXF encoding product last year," said Menno Helmus, Executive Producer at EO.   "Telestream offered both their Flip4Mac MXF desktop-based import component and their server-based FlipFactory solution. We selected FlipFactory for the initial high-volume task of ingesting XDCAM content into our Xsan Final Cut Pro environment, as well as exporting back to MXF for delivery to the NOB."

"We're please to have a forward-thinking customer like EO select Telestream to automate their MXF workflows," said David Heppe, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Telestream.

Telestream Flip4Mac and FlipFactory products are being demonstrated in Stand 7.831 at the International Broadcasters Convention (IBC) being held in Amsterdam September 9-13, 2005.

About Evangelische Omroep (EO) - optional
EO is one of nine public broadcasters in the Netherlands. Together with the other nine companies EO shares 3 TV channels and 5 Radio channels. The companies share the central playout facility in Hilversum that is operated for them by NOB. NOB is in the process of installing the DDV project, a tapeless playout facility that will be operational in April 2006. Both the public broadcasters and The Dutch National Video archive - 'Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid' will then have complete digital tapeless workflows connecting to each other and playing to air via the DDV facility. EO is the forerunner amongst the public broadcasters to connect to the DDV first and has already installed a complete tapeless production workflow for that purpose.
