What does "Memory allocation error" mean?

Audio normalization filter requires Episode Encoder to read and store the entire file. It is therefore easy to exceed available memory on your computer. Engineers are working on minimizing the leak. Meanwhile, disabling the normalize filter or encoding the file in Episode Engine Pro using the split-and-stitch functionality minimizes the memory requirements.

Does Episode support Snow Leopard?

Yes, Episode 5.3 is compatible with Snow Leopard and below. Lion is not supported with Episode 5.

Episode Encoder can't open my source file

If you have a dot [.] in your file name, Episode Encoder will take that as everything after the dot as an extension.

My In/Out points buttons are greyed out.

In the demo mode of Episode Encoder you are not able to set in/out points.

Can I use an alpha channel when encoding to Flash 8?

If the source material contains an alpha (transparency) channel, you can choose to include it in the output.

What does "Error message: No importer found" mean?

The error message "Error: No importer found" will show up in the Status area if you have an input file format that is not supported by Episode Encoder or Episode Encoder Pro. Check the Users Guide to find all supported input and output formats in Episode Encoder / Episode Encoder Pro.

Be aware that this message can also be due to unsupported audio, video or both audio and video tracks! Before you submit a support ticket you can try to disable the audio or video track to see which one gives the error message!

What does "Error: failed to open file" mean?

Check Episode Encoder Format Support or the Users Guide to find all supported input and output formats.

The files I encoded as MPEG-2 won't play in QuickTime Player.

Even if you have the MPEG-2 QuickTime Component installed you will not be able to play MPEG-2 with 4:2:2 color space. Please try another player.

Why won’t the file I created in Episode Encoder play on my DVD?

If you are exporting a file to be put on a DVD, you must select the 4:2:0 color space within the Episode Encoder Pro settings.

How do I set a custom destination or a naming convention for my encoded files? (Episode Encoder on Windows)

  • Create a watchfolder from within the Episode application (located in the left pane in Episode)
  • Create the output folder and naming convention that you wish to use in the lower right area of the Episode UI.
  • Right click the watch folder that you would like to change the destination folder and and the naming convention for, and select the destination folder and naming folder that you would with to use.

The files dropped in this watchfolder will be encoded and named according to your naming convention and delivered to your specified output folder.

Can you run Episode 6 on Leopard OSX 10.5 ?

Yes you can run up to version 6.1.2 on Mac OSX 10.5.8. This is the last release for Leopard.
