Subject: WMV files won't import into or export from iMovie '08 or iMovie '09
Date: 4/10/09

Problem: I have a Flip4Mac WMV licensed product (Player Pro, Studio, Studio Pro, Studio Pro HD) but an unable to import or export a Windows Media file from iMove08 or iMovie09.

Solution:  Flip4Mac is currently only supported in iMovie06 and not in iMovie08 or 09.  Our Engineering team is working with Apple to determine what is needed to support iMovie08 and 09.  In the meantime, there are some workarounds.

If you have iMovie '08, you have two options:

  1. Import the Windows Media file into QuickTime Pro (a $29.00 purchase from Apple) and export as MOV.  You can then import the file into iMovie '08 for editing.  To export as Windows Media, you’ll need to import the edited MOV into QuickTime Pro and then export as Windows Media file.
  2. Contact AppleCare at http://www.apple.com/support/contact/ and they can help you with getting a copy of iMovie '06, which Flip4Mac supports.

If you have iMovie '09, you’ll need to import the file into QuickTime Pro for conversion to MOV. You can then import into iMovie '09 for editing. To export as Windows Media, you’ll need to import your edited MOV into QuickTime Pro and then export as a Windows Media file.
