Here are some of the most common license activation questions:

  • Wirecast for Mac License Errors

    Problem:
    When applying my license, I receive a license error.

    Solution:
    If you are running into a Wirecast activation error, please try the following instructions.

    First, deactivate your serial number by going to Preferences > Licenses > Deactivate License.

    Then, please quit Wirecast:

    • Delete the following files:
      ◊  HD> Library> Preferences>net.telestream.wirecast.plist
      ◊  User> Library> Preferences>com.varasoftware.wirecast.plist (if Available)
      ◊  User> Library> Preferences>Vara Software folder (if Available)
    • Restart your computer.
    • Launch Wirecast and activate your license.

    After deleting these folders, you should be able to activate successfully. If you continue to have difficulty, please contact Telestream Desktop Support.

  • Wirecast for Windows/PC License Errors

    Problem:
    When applying my license, I get an activation error.

    Solution:
    If you are running into a Wirecast activation error, please try the following instructions.

    First, deactivate your serial number by going to Preferences > Buy/Upgrade > Deactivate License.

    Then, please quit Wirecast and uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel:

    After deleting these folders, you should be able to activate successfully. If you continue to have any difficulty with your license, please contact Telestream Desktop Support.

  • -25005 Maximum Activations Error

    Problem:
    When trying to activate the license, the program displays "The maximum number of activations has been reached" appears. How do I fix this?

    Explanation:
    The Telestream product licenses are padded with one additional activation for use on a laptop or other secondary computer. If all activations are in use, it will not allow you to activate on an additional computer.

    Solution:
    Licenses can be deactivated by using the Deactivate License button in the Buy/Upgrade (Mac) or License (Windows) pane in Wirecast > Preferences.

    Telestream's technical support staff can also reset your activations remotely for your convenience.

  • "Cannot read serial number from disk" (Vara license)

    Problem:
    When I enter my Wirecast v3 serial number I get "Cannot read serial number from disk". I bought this license years ago and it is written with all lower case letters.

    Explanation:
    The reason you are unable to activate your serial number is because you have an older Vara license which no longer works with our licensing system.

    Solution:
    Please contact technical support to exchange this license for a valid Telestream license.

  • Unable to Log In to YouTube

    Problem:
    When trying to log in to YouTube Live, Wirecast for YouTube crashes.

    Explanation:
    We believe this is related to being signed into multiple accounts at the same time. Manually removing accounts using Safari does not help. The accounts continue to be showed as signed during authentication.

    Solution:
    If you are experiencing this error, please do the following:

    • Quit Wirecast for YouTube.
    • Log out of your YouTube/Google accounts in your web browser.
    • Now reset the Safari web browser's cache. Do this by opening Safari and going to the menu and choosing "Safari > Reset Safari"
    • Now you should be able to open Wirecast and authenticate into the correct YouTube account in the Output Settings menu
    • Now open your web browser (any web browser) and log into the same YouTube account you need to control the live event you are streaming.

    This should resolve the crashing. You may need to repeat these steps and restart your system several times to ensure the accounts have been cleared from Safari and memory.
